or this West Coast IPA we teamed up with our friends at North Park Beer Co in San Diego. Kelsey McNair, aka Mr. Hop Fu!, is a true wizard with hops. Seriously, the beers that he and his team produce are some of the most aromatic, saturated, and layered hoppy beers on the planet. But get this: they aren’t just in-your-face stunt beers. North Park marries maximalism and elegance in a way that we find rare and truly admirable.
When designing this beer, we wanted to incorporate a lot of North Park’s signature techniques to the beer. They are big fans of loading up the kettle and fermenter with as much hop as possible, and we turned to a mix of Citra and Mosaic Dynaboost to build a classic foundation for the beer. The star of the show here, though, is Tangier, a relatively new hop variety from Segal Ranches, known for its bright and sweet tangerine character. Imagine if the best parts late-harvest Cascade, Eclipse, and Citra could all be combined into a single hop, and you’ll start to grok the promise of Tangier. The citrus character in this beer transports you straight to an orange grove in peak citrus season; couple that with a little watermelon, berry, and mango from the classic one-two punch of Mosaic and Citra, and you have a forward-looking, modern IPA. Here’s to the future FU-ture!
