West Coast IPA

West Coast India Pale Ale

Archived

No style has evolved more over the past 15 years than West Coast IPA. In the last
decade and a half these beers have become drier, lighter, more aroma-intense, and
more refined in their bitterness. New innovations in hop science and technology let
brewers pack more hop character into these beers than ever before. The vanguard of
West Coast iPA today looks pretty different than just a few years ago, and ‘old school’
versions just don’t cut it anymore. So, we are carving out some new territory for
ourselves. Meet our new flagship West Coast IPA, a beer that goes all-in on the
contemporary version of this hallowed style.

How did we build our West Coast IPA? Mosaic drives the foundational hop flavors here:
sweet citrus, ripe tropical fruits, a little resin, musk, and ‘green’ notes. Strata, grown
here in Oregon, comes in as a key supporting player, adding softer fruity notes without
the dank edge. Krush, a new superstar, rounds out the hop bill adding depth with notes
of overripe stonefruit, fruit cocktail, and a character that we can only describe as
‘firecracker.’ The beer is punchy and bitter but still approachable. Intense but not edgy.
Emblematic of a new way of thinking about and making West Coast IPA.

Fresh IPA today should be so easily delicious and gloriously refreshing that it wows you
with the potential of hops. This is not the IPA that got your parents into craft beer, but it
might be the one that makes you reconsider everything you think about IPA.
